noodling, v.

A word I use to describe an activity that's halfway between doodling and structured experimentation. Like sense 2 of the uncommon verb usage of "noodle", but with a positive connotation. Also check out Merriam-Webster's definition.

No relation to bare-handed catfishing, except in the simultaneous silliness and seriousness.
